We are asking all residents to be mindful of their water use this summer. During hot, dry weather, water use increases dramatically putting pressure on our water system. In 2024, the Town used over 59 million gallons of water, with our highest usage day being July 29 using 326,984 gallons.
- Try watering your lawn early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation;
- Use a rain barrel to collect water for your garden;
- Let your grass grow a little longer to retain moisture and avoid overwatering—once or twice a week is usually enough;
- Water Deeply, Not Frequently. Deep, less frequent watering encourages deep root growth and healthier plants.
- Fix Leaks. A small leak in a garden hose or irrigation system can waste gallons.
Being mindful of your water use helps ensure there’s always enough available for drinking and emergency fire suppression. It also reduces pressure on our water system, helping it operate more efficiently and sustainably.
