$2.3 Million Recreation Investment Makes Positive Waves and Takes Big Steps Forward
New Pool and Trail Revitalization Projects Officially Open With Ceremony and Celebration
News Release from Town of Indian Head | Issued Sat., Aug. 26, 2023
Today, the Town of Indian Head celebrated the official opening of their new swimming pool with a big splash, while their walking trail revitalization project has taken the last, big steps to cross the finish line.
Construction on the new outdoor swimming pool project began in August of 2022. Work included building a lap pool, leisure pool, waterslide feature and beach entry area for improved accessibility. The new pool facility opened for its first season to swimmers on July 18. The end of its inaugural summer is Sept. 5.
The Government of Canada contributed $704,813 and the Government of Saskatchewan contributed $587,285 toward the Town’s Swimming Pool Renovation project. The Town funded the remaining $469,934.
Construction on the trail project began in May of 2022. Work included installing lighting to improve safety and increase the useable hours, along with paving 2 km of trail to improve accessibility for all users.
The Government of Canada contributed $233,706 and the Government of Saskatchewan contributed $194,735 toward the Town’s Sunbeam Creek Walking Trail Revitalization project. The Town funded the remaining $155,823.
The total investment is $2,346,296 for the pair of recreational projects.
“With the opening of a new swimming pool and the completion of the revitalization of the Sunbeam Creek Walking Trail, residents of Indian Head will benefit from the addition and continued use of accessible recreational spaces for years to come. We will continue to work with communities across Saskatchewan to listen to their needs and assist how we can,” said the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, PrairiesCan and CanNor on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.
“Our government is proud to invest more than $780,000 toward these two important recreational projects,” said the Honourable Don McMorris, Saskatchewan’s Minister of Government Relations. “The new pool and upgrades to the trail system will improve opportunities for persons of all abilities to be active and outdoors, while making the community even more attractive for new residents and visitors alike.”
“Thanks to investments from the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan, along with the support of council and the community, we now have a pair of renewed recreational facilities that can be used by area residents and visitors, which enhance our tourism opportunities and position the Town for growth,” said His Worship Steven Cole, Mayor of the Town of Indian Head.
