The PFRA located just south of Indian Head, later known as the Prairie Shelterbelt Program, provided "technical services as well as tree and shrub seedlings for establishment of shelterbelts and other agroforestry, conservation and reclamation projects on eligible agricultural lands in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and in the Peace River region of British Columbia. The goal was to improve the performance and sustainability of the agricultural sector by helping to achieve the social, economic and environmental benefits of agroforestry" (Government of Canada, 2013). The program was ended in 2013.
